The Story Behind This Site

A place for anyone outside Japan who is curious about Japanese food, cooking, and the everyday culture behind it.

I’m Masa — a Japanese home cook who has lived outside Japan for many years. Over time, I’ve watched Japanese food become easier to find around the world — and found plenty of ways to enjoy it without making things too complicated.

So this site is my way of sharing what I know, what I’ve experienced, and sometimes what I’ve had to figure out along the way.

Not everything here is about being “authentic.”

What You’ll Find Here

Japanese food culture — the stories, habits, ingredients, and little details behind what we eat.

Japanese home cooking in the real world — not restaurant food, but the kind of food people actually make and eat at home, including shortcuts, substitutions, and modern conveniences.

Tools and secret weapons — the things that make Japanese cooking easier, more fun, or simply more interesting.

If you’re interested in Japanese food culture and/or want to cook Japanese food at home, I hope you’ll find a little something here that catches your eye.
